Spikeball Tournament Rules

Format Overview:

  • Team Size: 2 players per team
  • Bracket Style: Round robin → single elimination (may vary based on number of teams)
  • Game to: 11 points, win by 2, semi finals: 15, finals: 21
  • Cap: 15 points max, semi finals: 20, finals: 25

Game Rules:

Serving:

  • Serve from at least 4 feet away from the net.
  • Ball must be tossed before serving (no hit out of hand).
  • Serves must bounce cleanly off the net—pockets are allowed, rims are faults.
  • Teams alternate servers every 5 points.

During Play:

  • Each team gets up to 3 touches to return the ball onto the net.
  • The ball must be hit, not caught, lifted, or thrown.
  • Players can move 360° around the net—no boundaries.
  • After the serve, there are no sides—free movement is allowed.
  • If players interfere with their opponent’s ability to make a play (e.g., blocking a hit), it’s a hindrance—the point is replayed.

Faults & Infractions:

  • Rim hit: Fault, point to the other team.
  • Double touch: Same player hits the ball twice in a row.
  • Carry/Lift: Ball is not struck cleanly.
  • Missed serve or illegal toss (e.g. no toss, or stepping over 6 ft line).
  • Obstruction: Blocking or standing in the way of a hit.

Additional Guidelines:

  • Be ready to play when your match is called—delays may result in disqualification.
  • All players must maintain good sportsmanship and respect.
  • Tournament officials will make final calls on any disputes.
  • No substitutions once the tournament begins (unless pre-approved for injury).
  • All players must wear modest athletic clothing in accordance with event guidelines.

  • All Spikeball sets and balls will be provided.
  • You may bring your own for warm-up.
