Track and Field Event Rules

Format Overview:

Event Start Time is 8am ET.

Event Categories:

    • Boys: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m
    • Girls: 100m, 200m

Age Groups:

  • 8-10
  • 11-13
  • 14-17
  • 18+
  • 35+

Event Rules:

Start:

  • Athletes must start behind the designated start line.
  • False starts are allowed one time per A second false start results in disqualification.

Races:

  • All races are run in a staggered start (except for the 800m and 1500m, which will follow the waterfall start).
  • Runners must remain within their assigned lane throughout the race (excluding the 800m and 1500m). Lane infringement may lead to disqualification.
  • For the 800m/1500m race, overtaking competitors is permitted, but runners should not obstruct others.
  • In the event of a tie, an official will determine which athlete placed first.

Finish Line:

  • The winner of each race is determined by the runner who crosses the finish line first.
  • Athletes must complete the full race distance to be eligible for results.

Faults & Infractions:

  • False Start: A false start is when a runner begins before the official start After more than one false start, the runner will be disqualified.
  • Lane Violation: Runners must stay within their designated lane (except in the 800/1500m). Crossing into another competitor’s lane may lead to disqualification.
  • Obstruction: Deliberate obstruction of another athlete’s path will result in disqualification from the event.
  • Interference: Any interference with the competitor’s running path will result in disqualification.

Additional Guidelines:

  • Sportsmanship: All athletes are expected to maintain good sportsmanship and respect towards their fellow competitors.
  • Disputes: Tournament officials will make final decisions on any disputes or rule violations.
  • Late Arrivals: Athletes must report to their designated event area at least 10 minutes before their scheduled race time. Delays or no-shows may result in disqualification.
  • Warm-Up: Athletes are encouraged to warm up before their race using the designated warm-up area.
  • Modesty: Athletes must wear appropriate athletic clothing in line with event guidelines.

Equipment:

  • The event will provide all required track and field equipment.
  • Athletes should wear comfortable, competition-appropriate footwear (spikes are allowed for sprint events but must comply with event regulations).

Disqualification Rules:

  • Any athlete caught violating event rules or engaging in unsportsmanlike conduct may be disqualified from the race or the entire event.
  • A final decision will be made by the event officials.
